This is something new to me, is money that much of a trouble in neopets?

Everything is really really expensive in Neopia. Everything. Paintbrushes cost upwards of 1.5 million NP for decent colours (cheaper ones are kinda ugly), clothing can cost hundreds of thousands of NP on release and eventually settle down into about 100K a piece for standalone pieces or around 100K for an entire theme outfit. Food isn’t usually that expensive, there’s lots of places you can get it for free but Skeith and Grarrl can eat anything and often do, so I figure OP’s problem was the Skeith eating expensive items.

That said, gourmet food is fucking expensive too. There’s a scoreboard for gourmet diners. People be rich up there.

And let me guess, you can get NP paying with real money, that might or might not create an advantage over people who plays for free
